Newest singing duo Miko and Gab (composed of Miko Juarez and Gabriel Umali) has every reason to celebrate these days. Their debut single “Hugot“, released by Star Music, is enjoying constant airplays at MOR 101.9. Since Hugot’s debut at Number 10 last October 12, it has been steadily climbing the charts of MOR Pinoy Biga10 (Top 10 OPM Hits of the Day).
Aside from its official music video which gained a number of views, shares, and likes, everyone can also listen and download “Hugot” at Spotify and iTunes. The song is gaining steady followings because people can relate easily to its lyrics that talks about unrequited love such as “Mabuti pa yung pera nasusuklian pero yung pagmamahal ko hinde.” “Buti pa sa mga selfies mo nakangiti ka pero dito sa piling ko hinde.” Hugot is composed by Anton Juarez, Miko’s brother.
“Hugot is about anything that can make you smile. Ito yung mga hugot lines na dinaan sa kanta,” shares Miko.
The singing duo is slated to perform at the Rise 2 Shine Benefit Concert on November 3, 8pm, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The concert also marks the return of Rain, Korea’s King of Pop, to the Philippines. The event is for the benefit for Marawi, MYNP Foundation, and Ko-Ph world Foundation.
Miko and Gab first caught the public’s attention when they joined Pinoy Boyband Superstar on ABS-CBN. Gab reached the Top 20 spot while Miko lasted until 12 aspirants remained. Although they did not make it to the end, Miko and Gab never gave up on their dreams to become singers.
“We’ve become close during the contest because Gab was with my siblings watching me perform after he got eliminated,” Miko explains. “Then nung ma-out ako madalas na kaming magkasama manood ng mga shows and we do covers together with my brothers and sister.”
It turned out that their constant hanging out with each other paved the way to a more creative and exciting endeavor. Since their voices blend perfectly well and they have excellent rapport, it is not surprising that they become a duo. Not to mention their good looks make girls swoon every time they see the duo.
Miko and Gab are no strangers when it comes to performing. Miko belongs to a musically-inclined family. He was in Canada when he learned about Pinoy Boyband Superstar and immediately flew back to Manila to audition.
On the other hand, Gab was a member of a dance troupe in his school. “Hilig ko na din dati pa yung pagkanta lalo na mga songs ng One Direction. My parents are good singers, they were both choir members before they got married.”
