What a difference a year makes. We learned how to save New York City (Marvel’s The Defenders), deal with both mysteries and teenage drama (Riverdale), time travel (My Only Love Song), and read the minds of serial killers (Mindhunter). That life is better with super pigs (Okja) and just as crazy without Pablo (Narcos). And once again, that Eleven is not to be messed with (Stranger Things). The only thing we didn’t learn… who drew the dicks (American Vandal).

2017 brought a lot of learning and also, A LOT of watching. Netflix members around the world watched more than 140 million hours of shows per day (that’s a little more one billion hours per week in case you were wondering).
In the Philippines, the most popular1 of which fell on Friday, April 14, the second day of everyone’s much deserved Holy Week long weekend. Perhaps during that weekend, a lot of Filipinos even brought their favorite shows wherever they went because, the Philippines is among the top mobile downloaders in Asia. Meanwhile, there were also those who opted to stay at home and enjoy their HD-ready Netflix shows with their trusty connected TV and audio-video system.
We’re still scratching our heads about the person who watched Madagascar 131 times–nonetheless it’s an impressive feat, especially as the average member watched around 60 movies on Netflix this year2. What is definitely no surprise was Stranger Things 2 being the most Binge Raced show in the country this year (totally tubular!). After all, who can’t resist a good curiosity voyage?
There’s much to say about what we watched, but how we watched was also intriguing. Though bingeing was standard in 2017, not all series were enjoyed in the same way – there were those we devoured, those we savored, those we cheated on, and those that brought us together…
