The gold standard of ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel, shone bright at the recent 16th Gawad Tanglaw Awards with six of its original shows getting the nod from the respected award-giving body composed of film critics, scholars, historians, and the academe.
Leading the winners from the country’s first and premier 24/7 all-English cable news channel is the debate program “Square Off” anchored by Maiki Oreta and travel-adventure show “Asian Air Safari” anchored by Capt. Joy Roa, which both received the Presidential Jury Award for Culture, Arts, and Sustainable Development Communication, the highest Gawad Tanglaw distinction for arts and culture.
Also recognized were The Boss” anchored by Cathy Yang for Best Business Program, “Beyond Politics” anchored by Lynda Jumilla-Abalos for Best Public Affairs Program, “Hardball” anchored by Bill Velasco and Boyet Sison for Best Sports Program, and “Green Living” anchored by Paolo Abrera for “Best Educational Program.”
Meanwhile, Sen. Loren Legarda, the anchor of the documentary series “Dayaw” that is being produced by ANC in partnership with the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts, was also given the Presidential Jury Award for Culture, Arts, and Sustainable Development Communication for her work in the program.
Two independently-produced shows, which air on ANC as blocktimers, were also deemed best in their recognized categories. “Trending With Kelly” won Best Lifestyle Program, while “Chinoy TV” was named “Best Magazine Show.”
This brings ANC’s Gawad Tanglaw total medal haul in 2018 to nine, the most for any all-news channel.
ANC also airs the replays of another winning program at the Gawad Tanglaw – ABS-CBN’s “G Diaries” – which won in the Best Educational Program category alongside “Green Living.” The show’s host Gina Lopez also took home a Presidential Jury Award for Culture, Arts, and Sustainable Development Communication.
