As the private concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, the services of Manila Water go beyond providing potable and accessible water to the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal Province. It has also initiated projects in line with its advocacy of water sustainability and environmental stewardship including campaigns for desludging of septic tanks. In 2017 alone, Manila Water desludged a total of 108,505 septic vaults.
As the desludging program is done every five years, fifteen (15) barangays under the concession area of Manila Water became beneficiaries of its desludging schedule for the first quarter of this year. These were Brgy. San Isidro in Angono, Brgy. Beverly Hills, San Juan, and Inarawan in Antipolo, Brgy. San Pedro Poblacion, San Juan Poblacion, San Guillermo and Bonbongan in Morong, Brgy. Ugong in Pasig, Brgy. Magtanggol and Tabcalera in Pateros, Brgy. Beverly Hills in Taytay, Brgy. Rosario in Rodriguez, and Brgy. Bagong Lipunan in Quezon City. Desludging services were also provided to the following barangays: Brgy. Mambungan in Antipolo, Brgy. East Rembo in Makati, Brgy. Addition Hills and Pleasant Hills in Mandaluyong, Brgy. San Roque in Marikina, Brgy. Ibayo Tipas in Taguig, Brgy. Corazon de Jesus and Kabayanan in San Juan, Brgy. San Isidro in Rodriguez, and Brgy. Kaunlaran in Quezon City.
Manila Water has emphasized the importance of regular cleaning septic tanks to maintain the cleanliness of creeks, rivers and other water bodies to prevent untreated used water from directly flowing to these waterways. Desludging of septic tanks has been highly encouraged and does not incur any additional cost on the part of the customer. The program also ensures that the used water and sewage collected from the septic tanks undergo treatment at the two septage treatment plants of Manila Water.
Desludging services are ongoing at Brgy San Isidro in Cainta, Brgy. Mauway and San Jose in Mandaluyong, Brgy. Parang, Marikina Heights, and Barangka in Marikina, Brgy. Sta. Lucia and Dela Paz in Pasig, Brgy. Martires del 96 in Pateros, Brgy. Culiat and West Kamias in Quezon City, Brgy. Burgos in Rodriguez; Brgy. Progreso and Tibagan in San Juan, Brgy. Sto.
