One of the best businesses to get into at this time is construction.

This is according to Joel B. Ello, President and CEO of PEME consultancy Inc., who was one of the resource persons tapped for the Authorized Managing Officers Course and Construction Occupational Safety and Health.

“There are a lot of opportunities for new players in the industry. It is not only because of the build, build, build, program of the government, as there are many projects available in both the public and private sectors,” he says.

There is a need to improve the infrastructure program in the country, as we are lagging behind, he adds: “We need to address infrastructure in order for the country to become globally competitive. A construction boom will provide more opportunities and more jobs that will make this country progressive.”

He notes, however, that the existing qualifications to obtain the necessary licenses and permits are too lax compared to countries like the US.

“We should have more stringent regulations in monitoring our contractors.”

In order to ensure success in this field, he advises having a strong determination, professionalism in running the business, as well as expertise in financial and operational management.
