AirAsia, the world’s best low-cost airline, recently welcomed its maiden flight from Manila to Bacolod.

The aircraft was welcomed with a water cannon salute upon landing at 9:40am last October 27 at Bacolod-Silay International Airport.

Present at the inaugural event held at the Bacolod-Silay International Airport were AirAsia Philippines Chairman Atty. Joseph Omar Castillo, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Bacolod-Silay Airport Manager Martin Terre, and AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricardo P. Isla

Guests and VIPs on board this inaugural flight were welcomed at the airport by Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia together with MassKara dancers and drumbeaters.

AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricardo P. Isla said, “We are excited to celebrate this milestone and to paint the Negros Island skies red. AirAsia’s presence in the region will make air travel more affordable not just for Negrenses but for everyone who wants to explore this part of the country.”

Isla added that AirAsia is grateful for the efforts of Mayor Leonardia, who took on a decisive role in discussions to establish the route.

AirAsia also took part in activities at the MassKara Festival, one of the largest festivals in the Philippines, including the Electric MassKara, the Street and Arena Dance Competition, and the MassKara Queen Pageant and Coronation Night.
