AirAsia Philippines noted a positive improvement in its performance as commercial flights gradually resumed in June.
Since the easing of travel restrictions, seats sold for the month of June increased by 30% compared to the previous month.
AirAsia Philippines’ June performance contributed to AirAsia Group’s recent record-breaking 41,000 seats sold in a single day post hibernation. Popular routes booked include Manila to Puerto Princesa and Davao. Flights to and from Davao similarly showed consistently high load factors throughout the month.
AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla said, “AirAsia’s road to recovery has started, and this has kept us in good spirits knowing that we are in the midst of the aviation industry’s upturn. We are committed to gradually restoring our network. This month (July), we are glad to resume international flights, starting with Kuala Lumpur, where AirAsia’s headquarters is located.”
AirAsia Philippines initially operated 9 routes from 3 of its hubs (Manila, Clark, Cebu), utilizing 7 aircraft in its first month since the hibernation of its fleet. Nearly 200 commercial flights were mounted in June, flying over 10,000 guests domestically.
Eleven routes are being operated in July, including an international route to Malaysia.
Meanwhile, with travel plans being fluid during the current pandemic, AirAsia offers enhanced flexibility options for those who wish to make changes to their flights.
Guests with bookings made between June 3 and October 31, 2020 may make an unlimited number of flight date changes via the ‘My Bookings’ tab on airasia.com or the AirAsia mobile app.
Flights may be rebooked for travel up to 31 December 2020, subject to seat availability and fare difference. Flight changes may be made up to 48 hours before the original departure time.
Add-ons such as baggage allowance, meals and seats will be carried to the next flight booking, subject to availability on the new flight.
Guests can expect enhanced safety measures throughout the entire journey. These include the mandatory wearing of face masks to be permitted to travel, amongst others. Guests are also advised to check and comply with measures implemented by local airport authorities for a smooth travel experience.
AirAsia is closely monitoring this situation and reserves the right to announce further policies according to the latest developments.
