In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said “The successful repatriation is a testament to the DFA’s commitment to extending assistance to overseas Filipinos and their families who wish to return home and reunite with their families in this time of global health crisis.”

AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla said, “It is an honor to serve the country and our fellow Filipinos during this time. AirAsia has always been supportive of our government in this fight against COVID-19. We are grateful for the trust that the DFA has in AirAsia in mounting this special flight.

“We are proud of the frontliners, including government workers and airline crew, who worked together to carry out this mission.”

AirAsia imposes strict standards for passenger and baggage carriage in compliance with local governments, civil aviation authorities, and global and local health agencies, including the World Health Organization. The aircraft used was immediately disinfected after the flight.

More special recovery flights are being arranged as required in coordination with local governments and foreign embassies.
