Without a doubt, great artists are not only defined by their ability to churn-out song-after-song for casual music fans, but they are separated from the rest by their ability to seamlessly cross-genres without losing their identity – something not just fans, but peers and serious aficionados would also take-notice-of… In short, musical evolution is always the name of the game when it comes to longevity.
And evosound artist Joe Vince is seemingly one of those rare musical talents who is destined for bigger things, as his latest single “Laro,” promises to be yet another surefire single that will capture the hearts and ears of both his steadily growing legion of followers and newer audiences who are looking for that skillfully deft hand at creating awesome, R&B-tinged tunes with an undeniable Filipino flavor and know-how.
The track – which recalls vintage steady pop vibes (much in the vein of Michael Jackson, DeBarge and even early-era Pinoy pop faves like Gary Valenciano…) and smooth, sexy and clever lyrical phrasing – is undoubtedly what future-classics are made-of; everything from the archetypal electronic-flavored textures and the seamlessly crisp production and mix literally makes it hard-to-dismiss, and immediately calls for a second (or even third…) repeat.
And Joe Vince does admit that it’s one of his most-inspired tracks yet…
“It all started when I noticed how modern relationships often go,” reveals the singer/songwriter when asked to share the genesis of the song. “It seems like couples can basically do whatever they want – without the necessary labels or traditional setups that a lot of us are used to, so it began with that first line in my head: ‘Di na tayo bata para makipaglaro [we’re no longer young to keep fooling around…],” he shares.
Notably, the new single is a bit of a departure from his last two recent outings, a lounge-y duet with international artist Susan Wong called “Two Lonely People” and the Pinoy folk music-charged “Hilik” (both also released under evosound…), and Joe also shares that it’s a very exciting endeavor, more than it is unnerving: “there’s an obvious 70s-80s musical vibe that listeners will hear, juxtaposed with – again – the lyrics about the modern, no-attachment relationships that are so prevalent these days; I wanted that contrast – even though I realized that switching musical styles would make things more challenging – but I was up-to-the task, and I think the results were way better than I actually expected, if I may say so myself,” the artist says, and adds, “I think it’d be awesome if it could be a new-age anthem for younger people in relationships – maybe enough to even start a trend, or say, a dance challenge on a popular video app… that would be amazing to see,” he smiles, and ends: “whatever the case, I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that listeners can relate to it and it helps them get a better understanding of whatever it is they’re experiencing – that is, after all, all any artist can hope for.”
“Laro” is set to be released very soon on all digital music platforms and major streaming sites.
