Globe is holding a month-long celebration in support of the National Privacy Commission’s (NPC) Privacy Awareness Week in May. This is part of its commitment to provide practical information that enables Filipinos to become responsible digital citizens.

Globe and the Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development (CANVAS), with support from Google, opened an exhibit at the Globe Tower on May 17, 2022 showcasing the NPC-awarded book “Safe Space: A Kid’s Guide to Data Privacy.”

Now in its sophomore year, the Globe event focuses on the theme “#AtinAngSecurity – Empowering Globe Customers and Employees through Practical Privacy and Security Best Practices.” It is led by the company’s Information Security and Data Privacy (ISDP) team.

“Globe has always been a strong advocate of privacy and security. This is why we want to provide our stakeholders with communications and activities that could increase their awareness about this very important topic,” said Anton Bonifacio, Globe Chief Information Security Officer.

Among Globe’s innovative new projects is an art exhibit in collaboration with the Center for Art, New Ventures, and Sustainable Development (CANVAS) with support from Google. It showcases the NPC-awarded book “Safe Space: A Kid’s Guide to Data Privacy.”

The activity book teaches children aged 6 to 12 about personal data and how to protect it. Using child-friendly language, Safe Space shows how social media, online gaming, and other platforms collect and use personal data. A digital copy of the book is available for free at the Globe eLibrary.

The experiential event allows the audience to develop their appreciation for privacy and security in a creative environment.

To formally open the exhibit, a ribbon-cutting ceremony with CANVAS and Google was held on May 17 at The Globe Tower. It was attended by Globe Chief Information Security Officer Anton Bonifacio, Globe Chief Privacy Officer Irish Salandanan-Almeida, CANVAS Founder and Executive Director Gigo Alampay, NPC Deputy Privacy Commissioner Leandro Angelo Aguirre, NPC Deputy Privacy Commissioner Dug Christopher Mah, and Google Philippines Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Yves Gonzalez.

Gonzalez shared, “Keeping people safe online is important to Google. We are glad to collaborate with Globe, CANVAS and the National Privacy Commission in creating an online safety exhibit that will further educate kids and families about data privacy. Through our products, policies, and partnerships, we will continue to help make the internet a safer space for everyone.”

The event was supplemented by communications and trivia released to Globe employees. It will culminate in the ISDP Month Forum on May 27, 2022, a conference that will gather leading industry experts to provide insightful presentations and discussions on practical privacy and security.

Data privacy and online security are critical focus areas that are supported by Globe as it promotes digitalization. The company supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through UN SDG No. 9, which emphasizes the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development.

Globe believes that privacy and security are vital to delivering its promise to serve as a champion of customer trust and privacy rights. It has created dedicated channels to continuously raise awareness and address related concerns.
